Where History Meets Heart in Destination Weddings: Interview with Margherita Di Somma | Bosco de’ Medici, Pompeii

We step into the elegant, culture-rich world of Margherita Di Somma, Senior Wedding & Event Planner at Bosco de’ Medici Winery & Resort in Pompeii. With a decade of experience in hospitality and international weddings, Margherita brings soul, strategy, and storytelling to each celebration – all set against one of Italy’s most evocative backdrops.

Her work is a marriage of history and modernity, grounded in local Campanian culture and elevated through her global perspective shaped by fairs in Cannes, London, and New York. Here’s what she shared with us about creativity, evolving trends, and one unforgettable symbolic gesture that still echoes through the vines.

How do you stay creatively inspired when weddings happen every weekend in high season?

It always begins with the couple. I take time to truly understand their story – who they are, what they value, how they want to feel. Whether they’re artistic, adventurous, traditional or free-spirited, their energy shapes the vision. No two weddings should feel the same, because no two couples ever are.

I’m also lucky to collaborate with a brilliant network of local vendors here in Campania – florists, musicians, stylists, photographers. We constantly share new ideas, materials, and techniques. These creative exchanges keep everything fresh.

After each wedding, I step back and review – what worked beautifully? What could improve? I look at the photos and videos with new eyes, reflecting on the flow, guest experience, and aesthetic. This cycle of reflection keeps me evolving.

What trends are you currently seeing in destination weddings at your property?

Weddings in Pompeii – and Campania in general – are becoming immersive, multi-day journeys. More couples are crafting a “wedding weekend” rather than just a single day, with experiences like:
• Pizza-making classes or limoncello tastings as welcome events
• Guided tours of Pompei or Herculaneum
• Boat trips along the Amalfi Coast
• Post-wedding brunches overlooking Vesuvius

There’s also a shift toward elevated-casual dining:
• Gourmet buffets with live pasta or seafood stations
• Neapolitan pizza parties for welcome dinners or after-parties
• Charcuterie and cheese displays with artisanal local products

And most beautifully – a desire for authenticity. Couples want to integrate with the culture, not just decorate with it. That means:
• Live local musicians – from folk singers to pizzica dancers
• Handcrafted favors like limoncello, Vietri ceramics, or olive oil
• Ceremonies in private villas, ancient ruins, or archaeological viewpoints

This is wedding tourism with soul – storytelling, not just styling.

Have you ever seen a couple do something truly original or symbolic?

Yes – and it left a lasting impression on everyone involved.

After their ceremony, one couple invited their guests to witness something special: a symbolic grape-stomping ritual. We prepared a custom, pristine vat with grapes from our own vineyard. The couple changed into something casual, climbed in, and joyfully crushed the grapes together – as friends and family cheered them on.

Then came the most heartfelt touch: a small bottle of Bosco de’ Medici wine, customized with their own “future vintage” label, was brought out. They toasted to their life ahead – to the blending of stories, time, and transformation.

It was joyful, meaningful, and deeply rooted in place. That moment captured everything I love about weddings – the merging of tradition, symbolism, and love.

Sincerely yours,  Margherita Di Somma | Bosco de’ Medici, Pompeii
